INTERNATIOAL FUNERARY TRANSPORT & TRANSFERS

The Air Transport Department at Startrans offers a human remains transportation service, HUM according to the IATA commodity codes.

In relation to the air transport of human remains, we must differentiate between cremated and non-cremated remains. In the case of non-cremated remains, these must be contained in a coffin, which itself must be placed inside an outer container, which could be a wooden box or pressed cardboard. The outer container must be rigid and resistant and must include cushioning to protect the coffin from any harm. At the same time, it must conceal the nature of the contents.

Sufficient absorbent material must be placed between the coffin and the outer container.

The outer container must also have strong handles to facilitate its handling.

In the case of cremated human remains, these are classified as being the same as any other general cargo, being regulated according to IATA’s HUM code.
